EVERY THOUGHT

The beginning of a song came to me as I was driving this morning to see some friends. All of it is praying God's Word in song: Keep my eyes looking straight ahead, taking every thought captive. I pray this for myself and I pray this for the Body of Christ as a whole.

2 Corinthians 10:5
[Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

Many of the struggles and difficulties we face from day to day are born out of unchecked thoughts and from wondering eyes. Colossians 3 encourages us to keep our minds on the things above and not on the things of this world. Imagine how much less couples would be entertaining the idea of divorce if they took those thoughts captive. Negative thoughts about one another, accusing thoughts, adultress thoughts, hateful thoughts. In Ephesians 4 we are told not to give any room or foothold to the devil. The passage of scripture was talking about undealt with emotions and anger. If we let it in or do not deal with it immediately, it takes root, it invites it's relatives -- bitterness and envy and jealousy and malicious behaviour.
